Democrats, Bill Maher and the Case of the Angry F**kers

Democrats, Bill Maher and the Case of the Angry F-kersReal Time with Bill Maher | EIB
Rush Limbaugh is pound scum, no doubt. And while I really wouldn’t put Bill Maher in that category, he has said things on his show and allowed things to be said on his show that are simply sickening. And the fact is, if we are going to hold a douche like Rush Limbaugh to the standard of common decency, then EVERYONE must be held to the same standard, Bill Maher included.

What I find interesting in this whole mess though is the focus on what Maher said about Palin; calling her the “c-word.” It’s known to be worst thing you can call a woman and may have been the true story behind the movie The Exorcist (Urban legend? Did you see that cu- girl’s head spin? Urban legend my arse!).

Yet that is not the worst thing ever said about women on Maher’s show. I can cite at least one example of something much, much worse that was said on his show much more recently and I can’t remember one Democratic Representative making a squeak about it.

I present to you The Case of the Angry F**kers. As Alicia Carruth reported back in July of last year, sex advice columnist Dan Savage and host of WTF with Marc Maron, Marc Maron (go figure) got into a “heated” discussion regarding Marcus Bachmann, Michele Bachmann’s husband, and his “gay therapy” clinic. As noted in the article, the conversation began rather seriously with Savage explaining, “You can’t pray away the gay, but you can torture a conflicted closet case to death.”

After Maher threw in a bizarre witchcraft comment, Maron chimed in with thoughts on how he felt Mr. Bachmann should handle his wife (’cause, you know, she’s gotten out of hand with all her thinkin’ and talkin’ and doin’ stuff he don’t agree with):

I don’t want to be crass but I hope [he] takes all that rage that comes from repression and denial into the bedroom with her…and I hope he f**ks her angrily, because that’s how I would. And I’ve thought about it. I just uh…  [audience and panel laughs and claps as Maron sits back in satisfaction at his “accomplishment”]

It’s a political statement I’m trying to make.

Yes, he was trying to make a political statement. Just like Rush Limbaugh was trying to make a political statement. Ms. Carruth was apparently wrong about what that statement was. She thought it was, “If I disagree with your beliefs and I think you’re horrible woman, I hope your husband rapes f**ks you angrily because I want to f**k you angrily.”

She may now agree with me that it’s simply, “Men are dicks. And women are willing to take it as long as those dicks lean their way.”
